CITY HALL PLAZA
boston, ma / 2013
As an over-sized public square, City Hall Plaza is characterized by its homogeneous brick pavement and gigantic structural walls. The project starts with critical modifications of “edge”, “figure”, and “field”, and reconceptualizes the plaza through integrating new elements into its historic framework. At present, City Hall Plaza is famous for its inhospitable space and monotonous experience; however, some simple manipulations of slopes, vegetation, and ground materials could transform the square into a completely different place.
